This October, the second edition of Pharmaprocess Forum, of which you are a member of its International Advisory Board, is held. As a great expert and deep connoisseur of the sector, what do you think about this initiative?
I truly believe that this event is an opportunity for us to both share and learn about the state of our industry and the global nature of the opportunities that exist as well as understanding the different innovations available within the near future. It also allows us to network and share our common themes and knowledge for the betterment of ourselves our industry and companies that we work for. Last but not least is the opportunities that such a meeting venue presents for us to learn and use back in our day to day activities that will generate value added benefits for our organizations.
At a time like this, how can Pharmaprocess contribute to the pharma sector internationally?
Providing all who participate with a meeting venue to allow them to expand on their field of knowledge and generate broader understanding of different subjects from colleagues with specific subject matter expertize. I am a firm believer that we never stop learning and any information, even if insignificant at the time, can be invaluable later on. This congress allows all to hear about different subjects from different experiences and knowhow and international in nature.
What are the main areas of concern to the pharma industry globally?
For me, the key element that will enable the pharma industry to progress is driven by innovation and value added activities. This congress will hopefully bring together these elements and allow those who attend to share their knowledge and experience for the benefit of the industry in general.
What technology advancements are out today that could be of benefit to the industry?
Specifically, I would say that we need to advance ourselves on smart robotics and automation as well as advances in simulation software for the benefit of optimized design concepts for biopharma facilities.
Are there any lessons or opportunities that other industries can offer the pharmaceutical industry?
In a word, absolutely, we as an industry have many examples and experiences from other industries that we can adopt and adapt to ours with great benefit to our companies. Examples of robotics from the automotive industry or aseptic operations from the electronics industry are only a small sample.
Given fundamental issues surrounding the falsification of medicines/ limited resources, what solutions are on the horizon?
Today we have embarked on a number of innovative solutions allowing the industry to mitigate the counterfeiting and falsification of medicines such as Serialization (Track & Trace), Primary Filled Container Identification using laser technology and tamper evident seals.
And, what the main trends of present and future of this industry?
Given the continued increase of compliance and standards from regulators, we as an industry need to evolve in early adoption and readiness of these changes. Optimized design standards and operating procedures will need to become part of the economics of the product.
Finally, what are the defining features of Sanofi Pasteur?
